Develop your plumbing skills today, for a better tomorrow

Our two week In-Depth Plumbing Skills course is designed for people who already have and use various hands-on skills and are practically orientated. If you need good all round plumbing skills, covering installation of bathrooms, maintenance of heating systems, plumbing theory and much more, then this is the course for you. If you are looking to change career direction and take up Plumbing as a new career, then our four week Career Changer course might be more suited to your needs.

At the beginning of the course we will issue you with your own Professional Plumbers tool kit, these tools are yours to keep and take away at the end of the course. We provide high quality, branded, professional tools in all of our kits - not cheap rubbish. You will be using these tools extensively during the two weeks of the course, but we also expect them to give you years of service long after the course is completed.

With the In-Depth Plumbing Skills course we start out by covering the basics for the first two days, this includes;

  • Health and Safety, learning to work safely
  • Introduction to your personal tool kit
  • Basics of hot and cold water supply in domestic properties

  • Theory & practical for techniques to join pipes including;
    • Soldering using end-feed and Yorkshire fittings
    • Compression sittings
    • Plastic push fit systems (including Hep20)

As part of these two days you will be expected to construct three test pieces which will demonstrate your developing skills, two of which will be pressure tested at 4Bar.

Having grasped the basics, the next eight days are spent building upon and developing your skills by having you complete a series of typical plumbing tasks, under the watch full eye of our instructor. During the completion of these tasks you will have many opportunities to practice the skills learnt during the first two days, in addition many aspects of theory will be introduced as you work on the tasks. The 'typical plumbing tasks' that you will be asked to complete include;

  • Running hot and cold water supplies

  • Decommissioning and installing a shower and tray
  • Installing an outside tap
  • Change taps (bath, basin & kitchen sink)
  • Repairing taps, re-washer and grinding seats

In addition to the very practical tasks you will be completing on the course, there are also many theoretical aspects of plumbing that need to be covered during the course, as we believe that is essential to understand not only how, but why specific tasks are undertaken. To ensure that the theory is well understood and can be applied to your practical work, most mornings start with a theory workshop from 08:30 for approximately 45 to 60 minutes. The following subjects are covered in detail;

  •  Domestic hot & cold water supplies

  •  Hot water cylinders
  •  Toilets, cisterns & drainage
  •  Central heating components & design
